About Me

Why and how I got into Kerries? That's always a good question and I often think it was just meant to be.

My family never ever owned a purebred dog therefore were never involved in any kind of dog competition. I grew up with two really not so purebred dogs. It was when I was about 10 or 12 years old, walking my sister's Golden Retriever and then started kind of running with it and I so clearly remember thinking to myself: "This is what I'm going to do this some day...". That was without even knowing dogs shows actually existed, but somehow, I had pictured myself showing a dog.

I was without a dog for a few years, until one day I heard about this dog show going on about an hour from me and so I went. I had no clue as to what I was going to see there, no club whatsoever what this dog show thing was all about. There were a couple Kerries at that show which very quickly draw my attention. Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier I also liked and this is what I ended up getting first. My show puppy!

Tiffany, my Wheaten puppy, wasn't 6 months old yet that I still had in mind I wanted to get a Kerry. So one day, I drove to Toronto to go watch a show where there were 2 or 3 Kerries entered and there I met with a breeder who had two bitches entered, one of which was available to a show home. Two weeks later, I met with this breeder and came home with Prelude. I finished both the Wheaten and the Kerry, conformation and obedience.

Life made it such that I had to part with the Wheaten. It wasn't long after that that I got another Kerry. My first Kerry was only bred once, producing only one puppy. My second Kerry produced some lovely puppies but although beautiful, they were not quite what I was looking for.

By then, I was very much into showing mine and other people's dogs. Campaigned two different Kerries in Canada, one of which I got three Best In Shows with, and fifteen Bests on the second other one, Can./Am. Ch. Sherwood's Justice For All "Marshall".

Then, at a show I met Hugo Quevedo, a handler from overseas with whom I became good friends with. One day I was telling him I didn't have a special to show for the following year, was desperately looking for one without any luck. It was Hugo that suggested to me that I should consider leasing one for a year. Luckily this was shortly after I had gotten our first computer and had access to the internet. What a great invention that is! I researched the web for days, looking at different kennels and dogs from all over the world and finally found what I was looking for... Charlotta Mellin and the Rollick's Kerries.

I just felt in love with Charlotta's dog and so I emailed her and a few months later Pint, Rollick's Flying Colours arrived to Canada and stay here for a little over a year. Even with his undocked tail, he finished very quickly and was successfully shown as a special.

It was just a few months after Pint went back home to Sweden, that I acquired a new puppy from Charlotta. This puppy, River, Multi BIS/BISS Can./Am. Ch. Rollick's Riverdance came to us when she was 3 months old and it was love at first sight, my little sunshine.

She has been the most wonderful companion, show dog and producer one could ever hope for and so I will forever be thankful to Charlotta for her trust in letting me have such a fine Kerry as River.

River produced three successful litters. From her first litter she produced 3 Canadian champions, 2 of which finished in the States and 2 more pointed in the States. Two of them are BIS winners and 3 are BISS winners. Her most famous son being Multi BIS/BISS Am./Can./Sw. Grand Ch. Symphonie's Be My Valentine who in 2009 became Canada's Top Winning Kerry Blue Terrier of all time. That same year he was Top Terrier and # 6 dog all-breed with 33 BIS.

Going on 25 years in the dog world, I have met a lot of nice and knowledgeable breeders, exhibitors and handlers with whom I became good friend with, something I will always cherish tremendously. Several have been very helpful in many ways, whether teaching me how to groom, discussing breeding plans, etc.
